Petron Now Setting Fresh Vegetables at These Two Locations

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has opened its first local farm produce stands in two Petron stations as it prepares to open more such stores throughout Metro Manila to help provide outlets for local farmers to sell their crops during these difficult times.

The two fresh produce stores it opened up are located at Petron Katipunan, near La Vista subdivision and Petron Zabarte station in Caloocan. Both are operated by the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The program, which is in support of the DA’s “Kadiwa ng Ani at Kita” nationwide agri-market program, aims to provide local farmers a ready market for their products, especially at this time when the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly restricted access to markets.

At the same time, it makes fresh, healthy produce more easily accessible to consumers via Petron’s vast network of gas stations.

“During this time of crisis, our farmers, livestock raisers, fishermen, and everyone in the agricultural sector, are also unsung heroes. We depend on them for our food supply. And yet, they are also among the most vulnerable to the crisis, especially since quarantine restrictions also impact their access to their traditional markets,” explained SMC president Ramon S. Ang.

“That is why we are grateful to DA Secretary William Dar for giving us the chance to help our farmers through their Kadiwa program. This way, our farmers can still continue their livelihood even during this pandemic,” Ang said.

“At the same time, we will help boost food accessibility for our citizens, who are asked to limit their movement to essential activities during the quarantine,” he added.

Earlier, SMC rolled out the first 30 of its target 90 refrigerated van-cum-rolling stores, now situated at various Petron stations. The trucks bring fresh poultry, meats, and ready-to-eat food closer to consumers.

Meanwhile, six Petron Treats convenience stores—out of a target 50 branches— have also started doubling as pick-up/fulfillment stores for San Miguel Foods Inc.’s new online ordering platform.

Ang added that Petron Corporation and San Miguel Foods Inc., both major businesses under SMC, are currently finalizing plans with the DA to roll out the next farmers’ produce outlets.

San Miguel Donates Additional 85,000 Liters of Fuel for COVID-19 Response

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) marked Labor Day with a fresh donation of 85,000 liters of free fuel for government’s Libreng Sakay programs, which provide free transportation to thousands of medical front liners and workers reporting to hospitals throughout Metro Manila.

The donation, which consists of 40,000 liters of fuel for the Metro Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) free shuttle program and another P45,000 liters for the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) parallel program, were provided by San Miguel subsidiaries SMC Infrastructure and Petron Corporation.

Worth an estimated P 2.8 million, the fuel donation is the second such grant that the two SMC businesses have given recently to benefit medical front liners fighting the Covid-19 global pandemic. All in all, the company has given a total of 170,000 liters, worth P 5.8 million, for the shuttle services.

“This is our simple way of honoring our brave and selfless medical workers on Labor Day. We want to continue honoring them by helping provide them this convenient, safe, and free means of transportation when they go on duty. Yes, it is a small thing, especially considering the risk they take and the sacrifices they make every day. But we are hoping it will at least make a little difference to them knowing that their government and donors like us, continue to support them in any way we can,” said SMC president Ramon S. Ang.

Apart from fuel, SMC Infrastructure also waives toll fees for medical front liners at toll roads it operates, namely the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), the Skyway System, NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), and the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).

While recognizing that efficient transportation is a must for doctors, nurses, and other medical practitioners at this time, the bulk of SMC’s efforts to help medical workers is focused on providing them with life-saving equipment and much-needed COVID-19 testing machines.

Recently, SMC donated five sets of Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) COVID-19 testing machines and High-Throughput Automated Nucleic Acid Extraction machines, that effectively doubles government’s testing capacity, with an additional 11,000 tests per day.

It has also distributed over 54,000 sets of medical-grade personal protective equipment (PPEs) to over 100 hospitals and another 10,000 PPEs manufactured by local garments exporters, to the Philippine General Hospital.

It has also thus far donated over 1.1 million liters of disinfecting 70 percent ethyl alcohol to hospitals, LGUs, and other vital institutions, made at its reconfigured liquor facilities under Ginebra San Miguel Inc.

You Can Now Buy Fresh Produce and Meats at Selected Petron Stations

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is leveraging the extensive service station network of its fuels subsidiary, Petron Corporation, to further boost food accessibility throughout the country.

To date 30 stations have been utilized for the company’s efforts to bring food products closer to communities and provide people a safe, convenient, alternative way to buy essential goods during the quarantine. It’s looking to mobilize 60 more stations.

Petron and San Miguel have started identifying key stations in Metro Manila that will sell farmers’ produce such as fruits and vegetables under the Department of Agriculture’s “Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita” rolling market program. The company is looking to utilize as many stations to bring more produce to more communities.

“Petron’s major stations will become a lifeline for farmers in the province struggling to find a way to sell their fresh farm harvest. With this program, we are able to help them sustain their livelihood in this time of crisis. At the same time, we’re also making available fresh fruits and vegetables to people in Metro Manila to complement the products we offer,” SMC president and COO Ramon S. Ang said.

Ang added, “Apart from food supply and security for our hardest hit communities, food accessibility was also an issue that we worked to address early into the COVID-19 crisis. With physical distancing and business restrictions, many Filipinos have had to line up for hours at supermarkets and public markets to get food supplies. While it’s a necessary activity, it also increases the risk to people’s health.”

Petron’s network is invaluable. Ang said, “We have 370 gas stations throughout Metro Manila. Their locations are strategic—near main roads in high-density areas. By making essential food products available there, there would be less need for people to commute or travel far and line up for hours in markets.”

Thirty Petron stations now serve as sites for the SMC Logistics reefer van-cum-rolling stores San Miguel deployed throughout Metro Manila. The food trucks come loaded with frozen poultry products, fresh and processed meats, and ready-to-eat goods.

The initiative is an expansion of San Miguel Foods Inc.’s Manukang Bayan rolling store concept. Stations located in Pasig, Paranaque, Quezon City, Caloocan, Taytay, Mandaluyong, Muntinlupa, Marikina, Pasay, Taguig, Manila, Las Pinas, and Makati, are among those that host the reefer van rolling stores. These rolling stores are also now in the Visayas starting with five Petron stations in Bacolod and Negros Occidental.

Meanwhile, six Petron Treats convenience stores now serve as pick-up points for products ordered via SMC’s new online ordering system.

The system further minimizes time spent in queues or outside homes as it lets customers order products under the company’s roster of trusted brands, including, among others, Magnolia, Purefoods, Monterey, San Mig Coffee, and La Pacita—and later pick them up and pay for them at select Treats stores.

Participating branches include Treats Commonwealth, Diego Silang Katipunan, Santolan in Pasig, JP Rizal in Marikina, and Litex Road in Quezon City. SMC is looking to add 50 more stations.

Petron, SMC Infrastructure Donated P 3.9 Million Worth of Fuel

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has donated fuel to support government’s Libreng Sakay program for health workers and other front liners providing critical service to the country in these difficult times.

The company’s Petron Corporation and SMC infrastructure together have donated P 3.9 million worth of fuel to be used by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) in mobilizing shuttle services that regularly bring medical and other front liners to and from various hospitals and locations in Metro Manila during the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has commissioned sixty (60) shuttle services to transport medical workers in 19 routes daily following the declaration, and subsequent two-week extension of the ECQ to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

To fuel these vehicles, SMC Infrastructure has allotted a total of 54,000 liters of fuel, or 50 liters per day for each of the 60 buses. The fuel may be availed through the use of Petron e-fuel cards that SMC Infrastructure donated.

“We are amazed at how everybody is pulling together to fight this battle. For our part, we will not stop looking for opportunities to help. In times like this, we should look out for each other even more,” SMC President Ramon Ang said.

To further support the health workers who are at the forefront of the COVID-19 battle, SMC earlier announced a P 500 million fund to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE).

It has already committed to purchase the first 10,000 sets of medical-grade PPEs to be produced by a local manufacturer under the Confederation of Wearable Exporters of the Philippines (CONWEP), through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

SMC, through SMC tollways, has also provided P 1.8 million worth of free toll to date for over 2,000 medical front liners that use the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, STAR Tollway, NAIAx and the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).

The company has also re-purposed its Ginebra San Miguel, Inc (GSMI) facilities to produce 70 percent ethyl alcohol and has distributed approximately 518,340 liters or P 38.9 million worth of ethyl alcohol to various hospitals, local government units, and government agencies.

To date, SMC has also donated P 199.4 million worth of canned goods, meat products, biscuits, bread, coffee, and milk as well as donations to PNP and AFP personnel stationed at SLEX, Skyway, and Star Tollway checkpoints.

Petron Corporation through Petron Foundation joins in the country’s collective efforts to help health workers standing at the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19.

The largest oil refining company in the country announced that Petron Value Card (PVC) holders can now donate their points to fund personal protective equipment (PPE), masks, and relief packs for health workers from the Lung Center of the Philippines, Philippine General Hospital, Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital, and Sanitarium San Lazaro Hospital.

To donate, simply text DONATE<space>COVID19<space>16-DIGIT CARDNUMBER<space>AMOUNT and send to 0917-567-1111 with no minimum amount required.

Petron has pledged an initial contribution of P 1 million to support the PVC donation drive.

In addition, Petron has donated free fuel to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) Libreng Sakay program. Through this, front liners can avail of free transport for the duration of Luzon’s month-long Enhanced Community Quarantine.

Petron also distributed pre-loaded PVCs to doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff as a token of appreciation for their invaluable service and sacrifice.

“These are challenging times but we will get through this together. We are tirelessly working and thinking of ways how we can make things easier for our fellow Filipinos, especially those at the frontlines,” Petron President and CEO Ramon S. Ang said.

The company continues to work with government agencies and LGUs to extend much-needed assistance to Filipino workers and communities most affected by COVID-19. Petron has affirmed its commitment to ensure sufficient and stable fuel supply, while emphasizing that the health and safety of its people remain its top priority.

Petron Assures of Adequate Fuel Supply Despite Enhanced Community Quarantine

Petron Corporation is assuring its consumers that there will be a continuous supply of petroleum products as the entire nation steps up its fight against COVID-19.

Petron President and CEO Ramon S. Ang said that the company will also make sure that there is enough fuel especially for vital industries to keep the economy running.

“So far, our entire supply chain is working overtime to ensure that enough products are produced at our refinery. Vessels are continuously loaded so that our terminals are filled, and tank truck operations remain consistent. We are also trying our best to keep as many of our stations open and filled as possible while putting the safety and well-being of our employees first,” Ang said.

Petron is Philippines’s largest refiner providing nearly 30 percent of the country’s petroleum requirements through its 180,000 barrel-per-day Bataan refinery, 30 terminals, and over 2,400 stations nationwide.

“Let me reiterate that there is no need to panic. We will step up and we will get through this together. In these critical times, rest assured that basic necessities will be delivered and our brave front liners will reach their destinations,” added Ang.

He emphasized that the health and safety of its people remain its top priority. Petron has widely implemented a work-from-home set-up for its Luzon-based offices. Meanwhile, those working on the front line—its office-based skeletal force, service station personnel, tank truck drivers, and helpers are guided by the necessary protocols to ensure their health and safety.

The oil industry is among those granted exemption by the government from the Luzon-wide Community Quarantine. At this point, Petron has fully activated its Business Continuity Plan, taking into consideration all possible scenarios.

SMC Assures Operations Will Continue to Provide Basic Necessities During Enhanced Community Lockdown

San Miguel Corporation is assuring the public that its subsidiaries that provide basic necessities will continue to operate despite the Enhanced Community Lockdown. The assurance was made by no less than SMC President and COO Ramon S. Ang.

Petron Corporation, SMC Global Power Holdings Corp., (a power generation company), and SMC Infrastructure (the parent company of Skyway O&M), will continue to operate.

“We will provide essential services such as food, water, power, and petrol products,” said Ang. More importantly, he reiterated that all employees of SMC would continue to get paid despite the quarantine, and any form of work discontinuation.

Meanwhile, Ang also said that its supply chain is stable and has more than enough inventory to feed Filipinos nationwide for the next several months.

“We will operate our food facilities 24/7. This isn’t about making profits. We have a responsibility to make sure that food is made available to as many people as possible,” Ang said, adding that he was given assurance that government, through its Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), will lend assistance in securing its food facilities to allow for continuous operation and supply of raw materials to produce food for the country.

“As far as food supply is concerned, we have the capability to produce enough for everybody and deliver to supermarkets,” he said, adding the company is already working on distributing food donations to poor communities where daily paid workers have been especially hard hit. San Miguel will also supply food to public hospitals and select government centers.

“It is our sense of duty and obligation, pagkakaisa and malasakit that will see us through these difficult times,” he adds.

SMC is also looking to produce 70 percent ethyl alcohol at one of its facilities, and distribute this for free to communities through their local government units. It’s understood that SMC spirits subsidiary Ginebra San Miguel has begun production of the alcohol.

Ang added that they are looking to donate the alcohol in bulk quantities, 20-liter containers up to 1,000-liter tote tanks. These can be used for disinfection in government, healthcare, and public facilities.

The company is also donating to LGUs its own brand of disinfectant powder (potassium monopersulfate triple salt) which is safe for humans and can easily be deployed as extra protection against the virus.

Ang said the company is also donating over 13,000 units of its Protect Plus Gold disinfectant powder. Each canister can clean and disinfect a space of up to 650 square meters.

The product, produced by the San Miguel Food Group’s Animal Health Care division, is used for sanitizing air spaces and surfaces in facilities and even in hog farms whenever there are disease outbreaks.

Petron Assures of Adequate Oil Supply After Saudi Refinery Attack

Yesterday, the world woke up to the news that Saudi Arabia’s state-owned oil company, Aramco, suffered a drone attack which effectively halved the kingdom’s oil output overnight. Although the government there allayed fears of an oil price spike by drawing on their existing reserves, what could this possibly mean for the world’s oil prices and supply?

Today, oil prices surged as much as 18 percent, but went down after U.S. President Donald Trump said he has authorized the use of oil from their country’s emergency oil supply. Still, it settled at 10 percent higher overnight.

In a CNN article, Aramco said that their oil facilities were badly damaged and restoring production to pre-attack levels will take weeks, not days. Since Saudi Arabia produces about 10 percent of the world’s supply, analysts predict that if Aramco does gets back online quickly, the result would be a USD 2-3 per barrel premium; if not, the effect could be as much as USD 10 per barrel.

For its part, the country’s leading oil company, Petron issued the following statement:
“Petron Corporation regrets the recent attacks made on Saudi Aramco’s refinery facilities, affecting oil output on an international scale.
We wish to assure the public that there will be no supply disruption from our end. We have adequate supply to support our domestic requirements.
Meanwhile, we are closely monitoring the situation and hoping that normalcy will be restored soon.”
Despite assurances that there will be no disruptions on supply, or an immediate affect on fuel prices, pump prices are up P 0.85 per liter for diesel and P 1.35 per liter for gasoline effective tomorrow, Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

These price hikes are unrelated to the situation that arose at Saudi Aramco, and are reflective of the movement of global oil prices.
