Mitsubishi Motors Philippines sent shockwaves when it revealed the pricing of the Montero Sport 4WD GT. Once known for its value-oriented positioning, the top-trim 7-seater mid-sized SUV now costs P 2,450,000—higher than any of its rivals, and even the likes of Mazda’s two 7-seater crossovers—the CX-8 and CX-9. Of course, the question in everyone’s mind is: what’s with the huge price jump? Well, we asked MMPC directly on what additional stuff you get over the 2WD GT given its P 452,000 premium.
Sadly, don’t expect a gold-lined engine bay or forged wheels to come with your Montero Sport 4WD GT. In fact, the differences are rather subtle, but when you add it up, you’ll begin to understand why Mitsubishi’s charging the hefty premium. Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corporation (PMFTC) recently acquired 96 brand new units of fleet vehicles from Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC). The recent purchase comprised of 48 units of L300, 46 units of Montero Sport, and 2 units of Pajero. The acquisition of these units is part of PMFTC fleet expansion. These units were delivered by MMPC’s dealers Citimotors Inc., Makati and Diamond Motor Corp. - Quezon Avenue. According to PMFTC the units will be utilize for various business operations all over the country.
When asked what made them choose Mitsubishi as their preferred brand, PMFTC representatives shared that Mitsubishi vehicles are reliable, has innovative features and are easy to maintain with its affordable cost of ownership. They also shared that these vehicles have an excellent record of accomplishment over the past years.

The refreshed 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is finally in the Philippines. It’s the same one launched in Thailand a few months back with one important difference: there’s no 4WD. That’s right, if you’re looking for the top-trim 4WD GT, you’ll have to wait for the first quarter of 2020. For now? There’s only the 2WD GLS and GT. Upfront is the latest iteration of Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield grille. It’s more pronounced and angular than before and with a higher hood, better emphasizes the width. The headlights retain their traditional positioning, but feature new lighting elements. The front fog lamps and signal lamps are the ones that migrate from the trailing edge to the middle of the bumper, akin to the Strada. At the back, the divisive “red tear” LED taillights have been retained, but have been re-shaped, cut, and given a smoked hue to visually improve the flow. A more aggressive-looking rear spoiler, reworked license plate garnish, and new designs for the 18-inch alloy wheels complete the changes.
At first glance, the 2020 Montero Sport looks to remain largely unchanged. However, it’s managed to embrace its futuristic styling by employing an 8-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster. Replacing the traditional gauges, this multi-function display not only adds a strong high-tech vibe, but puts the Montero Sport as the first in its class to offer such a feature.
Apart from this, it offers an 8-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Car Play and for that, it necessitated a re-do of the center console, including new climate control buttons. It also has an 8-way power adjustable driver seat, new soft-padded interior door trim, an AC outlet integrated in the second row, and a power tailgate. Finally, the Montero Sport receives the Mitsubishi Remote Control. Using a smartphone app, this will enable the vehicle to send notifications to the owner’s phone and can open and lock the car and tailgate for as long as the mobile phone is within Bluetooth range.
Underneath, the refreshed Montero Sport retains the 2.4-liter MIVEC diesel engine. While its outputs remain changed (181 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque), work has been done to improve its overall refinement. Mated to this engine is an 8-speed automatic. The rear suspension has also been updated for a more refined ride.
For safety, the 2020 Montero Sport comes with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, hill start assist, hill descent control, and a multi-view camera system.
The 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is available in 6 colors: Jet Black, Medium Red, Titanium Gray, Sterling Silver Metallic, and White Diamond. While there will more upcoming variants including a base GLX M/T and a top-trim 4WD GT, for now, there are only two variants: the GLS 2WD for P 1,769,000 and the GLS GT for P 1,998,000.
