British United Automobiles, the exclusive distributor of MINI in the Philippines, announces the arrival of the 2020 MINI John Cooper Works Clubman and John Cooper Works Countryman—a pair of 300-plus horsepower, factory-tuned premium compacts that now rightfully earn their place as part of MINI’s top-tier JCW family.
Powering both models is a new 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo that makes 306 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. Various technologies made the 75-horsepower output bump (and 29 percent more torque) over the previous models possible including a bigger turbocharger and a reduced compression ratio. This results in the MINI John Cooper Works Clubman rocketing to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, while the John Cooper Works Countryman does the same feat in 5.1 seconds. Top speed on both models is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
Mated to this new engine is an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. It features a new logic control that improves gear shift dynamics whether for comfort or performance, while paddle shifters offer more driver control. Moreover, the sports-tuned automatic also has Launch Control and an integrated differential lock that improves its acceleration and handling characteristics, respectively.
Maximizing the performance is a re-tuned suspension system with changes done to the steering and camber. 19-inch wheels are standard on both models, and so is an upgraded brake system, and a uniquely-tuned ALL4 all-wheel drive system as standard. The John Cooper Works Countryman ups this by having electronically-controlled Judder dampers, too.
Setting both of these John Cooper Works models apart from the rest of the range is its high level of standard equipment. Not only do they include John Cooper Works insignia and accents, but they both gain adaptive LED headlights, sports bucket seats for all five passengers, a Dinamica/Leather combination seating, heads-up display, Comfort Access smart keyless entry, 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay connectivity, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. It also comes with Park Distance Control with rear camera, and an automated parking system (Parking Assistant) as standard.
The 2020 MINI John Cooper Works Clubman retails for P 4,650,000, while the John Cooper Works Countryman goes for P 4,750,000. Both models are now available at all MINI showrooms nationwide.
