Honda is Launching the All-New 2021 Civic Soon Says Reports
It’s hard to imagine, but the current Honda Civic has been with us for five years now. Launched in 2016 to massive praise and success, it was refreshed just last year. That’s why when news came out that Honda’s launching the all-new 11th generation Civic very soon comes as a shocker.
Reports coming out of the now canceled Detroit Auto Show suggest that Honda would have used this as the venue to preview the 2021 Civic. True enough, when Honda’s product cycles are taken into account, a new-generation Civic is released typically after every five years, suggesting that the time’s ripe for the Japanese automaker to replace the highly-successful 10th generation model. Other reports suggest that Honda will wind down production of the current Civic, with end of production slated by the middle of 2021. It’s not known whether the current COVID-19 pandemic will affect these timelines.
The 11th generation Civic is not expected to be a large departure from the current 10th generation model. It’s said to ride on a carryover platform, and will even use the current model’s powertrain. Honda though will focus on the design. The new look is said to be sleeker and more understated than the current model. The solid wing front grille and C-shaped taillights are some details that may be changed in favor of something more subdued. Inside, it’s expected to benefit from a higher-quality interior with upgrades to the instrument cluster and infotainment screen. The push-button gear selector is also said to be under consideration.

Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition Sells Out Quickly
F*ck COVID-19. It seems Europeans still have an insatiable appetite when it comes to hot hatches. With news that only 100 Civic Type R Limited Edition units have been allocated for the European market, it only took a month to sell out.
Representing the purest expression of the Civic Type R, the Limited Edition model has less weight, improved dynamics, and an even stronger driver focus.
Developed with improved track performance as its core focus, the Civic Type R Limited Edition features 20-inch lightweight BBS forged alloy wheels, unique “Sunlight Yellow” paint, and a 47-kilogram weight reduction.
Inside, the Civic Type R Limited Edition features revised tactility and improved touch points, with a new Alcantara wrapped steering wheel and a counter-weighted teardrop gear knob. And unlike some of its track focused rivals, the Civic Type R Limited Edition retains its back seats—a plus for those who plan to still use this as a daily driver.
Unfortunately, Honda Cars Philippines has no plans of increasing its allocation of the Civic Type R, and with it any chances of seeing this Limited Edition or even the subdued Sport Line.

This Hotted-Up 2020 Honda Civic Type R Won't be Available in the Philippines (w/ Video)
Concerned with improving its performance on the race track, Honda has come up with a hotted-up version of its Civic Type R for 2020: the Civic Type R Limited Edition.
Admittedly, the name could be snazzier, but there’s no denying what’s in store for hardcore drivers here: a focus on weight reduction. It is, says Honda, the most extreme version of the Civic Type R ever made.
Sadly, none will be made available for the Philippine market, but for those who’re willing to import one either via the US or Europe (both of these markets are confirmed to get allocations), the Civic Type R Limited Edition is fitted with lightweight 20-inch forged BBS alloy wheels with Michelin Cup 2 tires. The electronic dampers have also been recalibrated to optimize this new wheel and tire combination, as has the steering system.
Continuing its track-focused nature, the infotainment and air conditioning system have been removed to save weight. The sound-deadening material has also been reduced in the roof, rear hatch panel, front bumper, and dashboard. Overall, the Civic Type R Limited Edition weighs 47 kilograms less than the regular Type R and that’s despite the addition of Honda SENSING driver assist safety suite.
Together with the weight loss, the Civic Type R Limited Edition remains powered by the 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo engine making 320 horsepower and 400 Nm. According to Honda, 0-100 km/h is dispatched in just 5.7 seconds.
Further reflecting its place as a limited-edition model, this Civic Type R gets a new color: Sunlight Yellow along with a dark chrome Civic at the badge, contrasting gloss black paint on the roof, wing mirrors, and hood intake vent. Inside, it gets red bucket seats, a red Alcantara steering wheel, and a teardrop shaped gear knob. The badging located near the shifter also notes not just the production serial number, but also its original country of sale.
Honda has opted not to release any pricing details yet, but expect this to be more expensive than the regular Civic Type R.

The 2020 Honda Civic Type R Loses the Rear Wing for Softbois
If you have a snooty reputation to protect, and you don’t want to be seen in a “boy racer” car, well, Honda’s just come up with a solution for you: the Civic Type R Sport Line. This variant is a new addition to the refreshed Civic Type R family.
For some, the Civic Type R’s high-set wing and red accents are too much of a giveaway, so much so that enterprising pirates have been knocking off the design as an aftermarket kit on the regular Civic sedan.
Well, it’s time to throw everyone off the scent with the Civic Type R Sport Line’s low-deck rear spoiler and gray accent lines that run along the lower edge of the car. The subtle approach continues to the wheels, where dark gray 19-inch alloy wheels are wrapped with softer Michelin Pilot Sports 4S tires for enhanced riding comfort.
Mechanically, the Civic Type R Sport Line keeps the stock model’s 306 horsepower, 400 Nm of torque 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo engine as well as the 6-speed manual. However, NVH has been improved by adding soundproofing in the tailgate and cargo area.
The Civic Type R Sport Line’s soft boy treatment continues inside, where the swathes of red have been replaced with black. The gear knob features a new tear drop shape, while the steering wheel is covered in grippy Alcantara. Of course, there’s still some red, but that’s limited to just stitching on the bucket seats and doors.
Sadly, the Civic Type R Sport Line is a Europe exclusive, so if you do want to make your current Civic Type R a bit more subtle, there’s no recourse but to order these parts online.

Honda Cars PH Just Phased Out the Rallye Red Civic RS Turbo
Fans of the Rallye Red color on the Honda Civic RS Turbo, here’s some bad news for you. Honda Cars Philippines is phasing this bright, sporty hue out. The good news? Here is a more formal, darker shade called Ignite Red Metallic.
This new shade, exclusive to the Civic RS Turbo replaces Rallye Red. If the color seems familiar, it debuted first on the all-new City as an exclusive color on the first-ever City RS variant. While this may be a small, running change to Honda’s compact sedan, this rationalization of available colors may be the first sign that the all-new City is almost upon us.
Aside from Ignite Red Metallic, the Civic RS Turbo also gets Cosmic Blue Metallic and Modern Steel Metallic. They also have Platinum White Pearl which adds P 20,000 on the sticker price.
Sadly, this is the only new thing on the Civic RS Turbo. If you were hoping for some Honda Sensing love, you are out of luck. But hey, at the very least Honda’s kept the price of this top-tier Civic to P 1,608,000—the very same price it had last year.

The 5 Most Searched Cars by Filipinos? Fuccboi Specials
You want to know what’s the most searched car by Filipino buyers? It’s the Honda Civic. That’s based on data compiled of all the searches made by customers on online classifieds giant, Carousell.
The rest of the Top 5 most searched cars sound like a list of fuccboi specials. Behind the Civic is the Honda City, Ford Mustang, Honda Jazz, and perhaps the most boring car in this bunch, the Toyota Vios.
However, when it came to SUVs, the search preference swung towards more family-oriented choices, a proof perhaps that fuccbois do grow up. The Toyota Fortuner is king, followed by the Mitsubishi Pajero, Honda CR-V, Toyota Land Cruiser, and Mitsubishi Montero Sport.
Ditto with MPVs/AUVs, where the Toyota Innova took the top spot followed by the Hyundai Starex, Toyota Rush, Mitsubishi L300, and Toyota Avanza.
When it comes to car brands though, Toyota is the most searched brand on the site, followed by Honda and Mitsubishi. Rounding out the Top 5 are, surprisingly, two luxury brands: BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Meanwhile, when it comes to two-wheeled rides, the top search is Yamaha followed by Vespa, Ducati, Honda, and Harley-Davidson.
“Carousell places a high premium on optimum user experience satisfaction whenever our customers use our platform to search for a vehicle that perfectly suits their specific needs,” shared Carousell Philippines Autos Head, Karl Magsuci. “That is why we always ensure that our listings offer the widest selection of vehicle and price options to a full range of buyers. Our automotive platform is ready to cater to the motoring needs of the Pinoy auto lovers, whether they are looking for used or brand-new vehicles, parts & accessories, motorcycles, and even trucks and other special vehicles.”

The Honda Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020 Re-imagines the EK9 Type R for the Modern Era
1990s nostalgia kicks into high gear over at Honda’s display at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2020. Reviving the classic Civic Type R EK9, Honda Access has given it a contemporary makeover and a badass name: Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020.
Said to reimagine how tuners would approach the EK9 this decade, the Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020 receives LED lighting on both ends. However, it wasn’t just a case of slapping on new bulbs. Instead, the lamp clusters have been covered up with DRLs made to trace the original one’s outline while the headlights reworked with new projector-type elements.
Lights aside, the Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020 also gets new bumpers with more aggressive looking vents at the front and the exhaust neatly integrated into the rear. The rear plate has been relocated to the bottom portion of the bumper, while the tailgate itself features a full-length black strip with an illuminated “Civic” logo done in period-appropriate font type. Turbine-style 17-inch alloy wheels with pink “Cyber” logos and new side mirrors complete the exterior highlights.
Inside, the Civic Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020 gets Recaro racing buckets and a three-spoke Momo steering wheel. Interestingly, it does get modern-day touches such as a digital gauge cluster and touch panel climate control.
Currently, Honda hasn’t given any details on whether or not they’ll offer some of the Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020’s parts for sale under their Modulo brand, but this does give some inspiration for those looking to customize their Civic.

Is the Recent PH Price Increase of the Honda Civic Type R Indicative That a Third Batch is Coming?
Ushering in 2020, Honda Cars Philippines upped the price of the Civic Type R. From P 2.980 million, the hot hatch’s price goes up P 200,000 to P 3.180 million. With the refreshed model debuting at the Tokyo Auto Salon, could this price be indicative that Honda is ready to bring yet another batch of Civic Type Rs into the country?
Before answering that question though, let’s see what’s new with the 2020 Civic Type R first.
The 2020 Civic Type R incorporates numerous changes to improve its already stellar driving dynamics, including new two-piece brake rotors and new brake pads designed to reduce fade and improve high-speed braking efficiency.
Suspension revisions for 2020 will include updated dampers for better ride comfort, stiffer rear bushings for better grip, and modifications to the front suspension to reduce friction and improve steering feel.
Exterior design enhancements also include a new larger front grille opening for improved engine cooling, and the 2020 model will be available in a new, Type R-exclusive Boost Blue color.
Inside, the 2020 Civic Type R gains an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and a new shifter with a restyled knob and even shorter shift throws. And in a bit of a surprise, it also adds Honda Sensing—a suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies.
Under the hood, the 2020 Civic Type R continues to draw power from a race-bred 2.0-liter direct-injected and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with VTEC. It continues to put out a peak 306 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. Power is still routed through the front wheels via a close-ratio 6-speed manual with a limited-slip differential. New for 2020 though is Active Sound Control, which modifies interior sound in concert with the chosen drive mode.
Now, we asked Honda Cars Philippines about the Civic Type R’s price increase, and whether or not this is indicative of a third batch of units arriving into the country. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. There are no concrete plans yet in place bring in the refreshed 2020 Civic Type R. The P 3.180-million price tag is simply reflective of the last few units that that were affected by unfavorable exchange rates. These units are still at selected Honda dealerships awaiting a buyer.

Honda is Displaying the Civic EK9 Anew at the Tokyo Auto Salon
Bring out the neon, turn on the fog machine, and cue the synthesizer music because Honda’s going 90s for the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon. Shown as a pair of renderings, the Japanese automaker is bringing out two stars from retirement: the Civic EK9 and the S2000 AP1.
For the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, Honda is transforming the EK9 Civic Type R into the “Civic Night Japan Cruiser 2020.” From the single sketch released so far, it looks to gain 90s appropriate body kit, turbine-style wheels, and a large spoiler. No details have been released yet, but the carmaker did say that they’re designing it for the “modern youth” and that it “reflects a neo-Japan where the near future and underground are disturbed.”
Next to the Civic Night Japan Cruiser 2020, Honda is also showing off the S2000. Dubbed “the S2000 20th Anniversary Prototype,” it celebrates the 20th anniversary of the high-revving roadster. This one wears new parts created based on customer feedback including a body kit and even new suspension bits. The most interesting part is that Honda Access, the carmaker’s accessories division, is labeling this particular S2000 a “Prototype” and not a “Concept.” With that, it’s highly likely that the parts it’s rocking will be offered as OEM aftermarket parts in the near future.

Honda Just Shoved a Civic Type R Engine Into an Isuzu Trooper
Before the big crossover craze, Honda and its luxury division, Acura, relied on a rather left-field choice to provide them with an SUV for the US market: Isuzu. The result is the Acura SLX, which is in turn, a more upscale Honda Passport, which is basically a re-badged Isuzu Trooper. You still follow?
Forgotten and lost in time, Honda dug up a 1996 Acura SLX and shoved in a 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo engine. The result? A ladder-frame SUV with 350 horsepower and 461 Nm. Coupled with what’s essentially a Civic Type R engine, Honda also shoehorned a multi-link independent rear suspension, the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system (sourced from an Acura RDX), and a 10-speed automatic.
The process started with a donor Acura SLX—in this case, unremarkable VIN 0052. After that, the body and frame were separated and restored. Once that was done, Honda/Acura engineers worked to mate it to the 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo motor. This resto-mod SLX also gained new front and rear subframes, and larger ventilated brakes as well.
Remarkably, Honda/Acura opted to keep this special one-off SLX a sleeper. Aside from its Performance Red Pearl/Champagne Silver two-tone exterior paint, the only indication of its performance is the Fifteen52 Tarmac wheels measuring 17-inches (that’s just one inch up from the stock SLX’s 16-inchers). Inside, it’s a proper 1990s throwback except for its dark gray Milano leather, modernized wood trim, and a push-button shifter that integrates the new electronic parking brake.
The SLX used for the build, a 1997 model originally painted Fir Green Metallic, was previously owned by Acura enthusiast and collector Tyson Hugie. A lifelong fan of the Acura brand who owns a 1994 Legend Coupe, 1994 Legend Sedan, 1992 Integra GS-R, and a 1992 Acura NSX.
