Chevrolet Introduces 2021 Tahoe and Suburban with Available Diesel Power

Chevrolet has taken the wraps off their two big boys: the 2021 Tahoe and Suburban and with that brings the fight to the Ford Expedition and other full-sized SUVs thanks to best-in-class interior room and an available class-exclusive diesel engine.

Both models boast of substantially increased interior room thanks to its shift to an independent rear suspension. With that, it lowers the rear floor area and lift-in height for increased cargo room while enabling Chevrolet to mount the rear-most seats higher for improved comfort.

The Tahoe is now 170 mm longer in overall length than the previous model with 124 mm of that ending up between the front and rear wheels. The Suburban is even longer—33 mm over the Tahoe with a wheelbase stretched a further 104 mm over the Tahoe.

Both models receive a couple of suspension options from traditional coil springs to magnetic dampers to complete air suspension. Opting for the air suspension offers up to 102 millimeters in height adjustment.

Powertrain options are: a 5.3-liter V8 making 355 horsepower and 519 Nm, a 6.2-liter V8 making 420 horsepower and 623 Nm both having GM’s Dynamic Fuel Management system (cylinder deactivation) for improved fuel economy; and surprisingly, a segment-exclusive 3.0-liter Duramax inline-6 diesel with 277 horsepower and 623 Nm of torque. All engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic driving either the rear or all wheels.

Outside, designers have given both the Tahoe and Suburban a bolder face. Six distinctive model trims vary the look and feel of these two SUVs offering everything from a sporty, luxurious, or off-road centric persona. Regardless of trim, LED headlights and taillights are standard as are active grille shutters, dual exhaust, and wheels ranging from 18 to 22 inches.

Inside, the Tahoe and Suburban both benefit from Chevrolet’s next-generation electrical architecture. The infotainment is accessible via a 10-inch touchscreen, while the driver benefits from an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. A 15-inch heads-up display is also an available option. The rear-seat entertainment package also adds a pair of 12.6-inch touchscreens to the back of the front headrests.

The all-new Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban are slated to go on sale in the United States first by mid-2020. Chevrolet Philippines executives attended the global launch indicating that these two full-sized SUVs will make their way to the country soon thereafter, likely by late 2020 to early 2021. These will be sourced from the Arlington, Texas assembly plant.
